Rakuten is bringing Optimism to San Francisco

Rakuten Optimism is returning to the U.S.

Now in it’s second year, the conference addressing the hottest trends in digital marketing, e-commerce, mobile network technology and more touches down in San Francisco on October 23, 2019. Alongside industry leaders and innovators, the agenda also features a climactic performance from eight-time Grammy Award winning recording artist Usher.

So, what exactly can you expect from San Francisco’s most optimistic event? Here are some of the highlights:

The human side of tech

In an era where artificial intelligence and digital disruption increasingly dominate the conversation between businesses and their customers, how can we preserve that crucial human connection?

Jennifer Fleiss, co-founder of Rent the Runway and CEO/co-founder of Jetblack, will share her experience in finding the right tech-human balance to maintain customer loyalty. Drawing from her experience building RTR’s strong brand and loyal customer base, Fleiss will share how she thinks about creating meaningful experiences that flow across online and real-life.

Google’s chief evangelist of brand marketing, Gopi Kallayil, will take to the stage to offer guidance on navigating the rapidly changing marketing landscape. As consumers take greater control over how they view content, how can brands command customer attention and make emotional connections in digital space?

Speakers from Forrester Research, Poshmark, ipsy and Verishop will share their experience and expertise on how to drive e-commerce sales with diversified digital marketing strategies.

Rakuten’s optimistic vision for the future

Of course, the day will also feature Rakuten leaders from the U.S. and beyond, including CEO of Rakuten Americas, Amit Patel, CTO of Rakuten Mobile, Tareq Amin and Rakuten founder and CEO, Mickey Mikitani. They’ll share their unique perspectives on the e-commerce, marketing and mobile industries, as well as share fresh news about Rakuten’s plans for the near future.

Kristen Gall, general manager at Rakuten Rewards, will share the story behind the success of the challenging rebrand from the much-loved twenty-year-old cashback brand Ebates, including the company’s very first Super Bowl ad and its upcoming TV campaign featuring two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry.

Rakuten Mobile CTO Amin will be joined on stage by executives from Cisco, Intel and Altiostar, the tech partners behind the launch of Rakuten’s world-first fully virtualized cloud-native mobile network. These leaders will share insights into the game-changing mobile launch and how 5G and the new mobile revolution will change business and consumer lifestyles forever.

Sparking joy!

Author and tidying up guru, Marie Kondo, will share her KonMari method of organization and what it means to “spark joy” in our professional and personal lives. Kondo is the well-known global icon and entrepreneur who has turned her childhood love for tidying into a compelling global brand.

Her afternoon fireside chat promises to provide inspirational wisdom and practical advice. Kondo — who recently formed a partnership with Rakuten — and her team of professional consultants will also be available in the exhibit hall to advise on how to take a holistic approach to lifestyle tidying.

A very big fish…

The closing keynote will be given by none other than Daymond John, chief executive of FUBU and The Shark Group, as well as a New York Times bestselling author and one of ABC’s original The Shark Tank investors.

John’s shrewd head for business and eye for fresh ideas is undeniable. Where is the future of retail? What’s the best way to capitalize on tech and digital? This will be a great opportunity to sit back and learn first-hand from someone who has built a multi-billion-dollar empire.

The one and only Usher

Last year at Rakuten Optimism, Shakira painted the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium gold in a special concert that followed on the heels of the North American segment of her El Dorado World Tour.

This year Optimism attendees can look forward to another star-studded performance. R&B legend and international superstar Usher has sold over 75 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling
recording artists of all time. Fresh from his cameo in the critically acclaimed 2019 movie Hustlers, Usher will close the day with a headline performance that will guarantee the event ends on an exciting and optimistic high.
