“Little Rakuten World” on display at Family Day 2024

Rakuten employees, family and friends couldn’t wait to go into the office on a Saturday earlier this month when the company held its annual Rakuten Family Day 2024 event in Tokyo. Under the theme of “Little Rakuten World,” the event gave attendees a taste of Rakuten’s diverse ecosystem, employee clubs, sustainability initiatives, unique culture and more.

Celebrating diversity, connecting cultures

Among the Rakuten Family Day 2024 booths were a number of official clubs led by employees, which sought to connect members from various organizations that might not ordinarily work together closely and provide opportunities to learn from different cultures.

Sustainability at Rakuten: Learning to take action

Another highlight from Rakuten Family Day 2024 was the interactive sustainability zone in collaboration with JICA*. In addition to learning more about Rakuten Group’s sustainability initiatives, attendees experienced sustainability first-hand as they sorted out microplastics from river soil gathered near the office. The cleaned soil was then returned to the river in cooperation with a local environmental organization.

Attractions for all ages

As always, the day was packed with activities for all ages. Attendees participated in a stamp rally, which encouraged them to visit different areas of the office, took commemorative photos to remember the day, and enjoyed a self-guided tour of the building, including the CEO office area. A complimentary lunch was also provided for attendees in the office cafeteria.

Showcasing Rakuten’s corporate culture

“Non-business events like Rakuten Family Day allow families and friends to truly understand Rakuten’s corporate culture because they can visit the office, see the work environment, interact with our employees and experience our culture firsthand,” said Ayumi Ono from the “Rakuten Smile Project,” who organized the event.

“We’ve also seen that when family members have a better understanding of the company, it enables employees to work with greater peace of mind. We sincerely hope that engaging events like this will contribute to the growth and success of both our employees and the Group.”

The team saw exactly that from one first-time attendee this year. The employee shared how seeing her family having fun exploring her workplace made her feel glad to be working at Rakuten. She also accompanied the email with an adorable picture drawn by her daughter.

Once again, Rakuten Family Day left a lasting impression on attendees, inspiring a stronger sense of community and belonging. With fun activities and meaningful educational initiatives, Rakuten showcased its commitment to empowering employees and society. Here’s to many more “special” Saturdays at the office to come!
