Rakuten Mobile network performance a winner: Opensignal report
Rakuten Mobile’s network performance continues to be recognized by independent global reviews. Following on from a win at the GLOMO Awards for its breakthrough software and a second “very good” rating from umlaut, Rakuten Mobile has been named a winner or joint winner in a notable five categories in the latest Japan experience report from Opensignal, the independent global standard for consumer mobile experience analysis.
Opensignal’s Japan Mobile Network Experience Report* looks at the experience of consumers in Japan on the country’s four networks, and is based on data collected from December 1, 2021, to February 28, 2022.
Rakuten Mobile wins in 5G Download Speed, Upload Speed and Voice App Experience in latest Opensignal report
In a remarkable achievement for Japan’s newest mobile network, Rakuten Mobile lead for the second time in 5G Upload Speed and since October 2020 in overall Upload Speed Experience, in addition to being named a joint winner in the 5G Download Speed, 5G Voice App Experience and Overall Voice App Experience categories.

Voice App Experience
In the Voice App Experience category, which measures the quality of experience for over-the-top (OTT) voice services, Rakuten Mobile was named a joint winner both in the Overall Voice App Experience category and the 5G Voice App Experience category, with respective scores of 82.3 and 83.4.
5G Download Speed
Rakuten Mobile was also named a joint winner in the 5G Download Speed category, which measures the speed experienced by Opensignal users across an operator’s 5G network. Rakuten Mobile’s network achieved average 5G download speeds of 181.8 Mbps, about 50 Mbps higher than the operator in third place.
Upload Speed Experience
In the Upload Speed Experience categories, which measure the average upload speed experienced by Opensignal users, Rakuten Mobile comfortably won both in the Overall Upload Experience category, with an average upload speed experience of 15.8 Mbps, and in the 5G Upload Speed Experience category, with an average speed of 29.7 Mbps.
