Football star Lukas Podolski gets a very special delivery
Last month, Rakuten Germany celebrated the season of giving with a very special campaign. Not only did the e-commerce marketplace work with merchants to offer Christmas shoppers great discounts, but they also gave them the opportunity to do a good deed.
For four days from December 5, shoppers could save up to 12% on selected purchases on Rakuten.de and at the same time know that 5% of sales would be donated to the Lukas Podolski Foundation, an initiative of the world-renowned football star who once represented Germany and now plays for Vissel Kobe. The result? A total of €120,000 was raised for a charity that supports disadvantaged children.
“The course of one’s path depends on many things, but above all on opportunities that you get and take,” commented Podolski. “We are very pleased that Rakuten supports us in providing disadvantaged kids with these opportunities and offering them a new perspective.”
The donation was presented to Podolski on January 7, 2018 – and what an exceptional handover it was!
During the Schauinslandreisen Cup, a popular charity football match organized by Podolski and attended by a host of German celebrities, Rakuten, who also acted as the cup’s platinum sponsor, made a very special appearance.
During a half-time ceremony, a Rakuten-branded drone delivered the €120,000 check directly to the pitch, landing on a specially-prepared stage right next to a delighted Lukas Podolski and Guido Schulz, Rakuten Germany’s Chief Operating Officer.
“We believe that with the right attitude and commitment, we can create a better future for all, ” said Schulz.” My deepest thanks go to all those who once again supported us to jointly fulfill our social responsibility.”
